What Is A Food Sensitivity?

 A food sensitivity is a delayed, negative reaction to a food, additive or chemical found in food.  Food sensitivities are characterised by slow-onset of symptoms and the presence of Type III IgG antibodies in the blood.


Food sensitivity reactions can occur from between 8 and 72 hours after consuming the offending food or additive, and are more difficult to pinpoint than food allergies.


Many people are oblivious to food sensitivities until they take a comprehensive food sensitivity test. The test tells you which foods to exclude from your diet and which foods you should eat in moderation in order to reduce or eliminate symptoms.



What are the symptoms of Food Sensitivity?

Naturopaths believe there is a direct link between food sensitivities and a number of health problems.


Food sensitivities are invisible to your senses but may cause a range of slow-onset symptoms that are seemingly unconnected to specific foods until you are tested.  People can develop sensitivities to any number of foods.


Food sensitivity symptoms can include any body area and organ system. If you have any of these symptoms or conditions, they may be caused or aggravated by food sensitivity. The symptoms and conditions related to food sensitivities may include, but are not limited to the following:


Auto-immune disease

What is an IgG Food Sensitivity Test?

Your immune system is designed to protect your body from illness.  However in some people the body can exhibit an immune-like response to specific foods.  The body produces antibodies to these foods and responds with chronic symptoms in order to deal with the perceived threat. 


In the case of the perceived threat being a food or additive, the immune reactions are constantly occurring.  If the diet is not changed the reactions may become chronic. A multitude of chronic health problems can be attributed to reactions by the body to foods and additives.


A Type III IgG Food Sensitivity Test detects antibodies in the blood to pinpoint sensitivities to specific foods and additives.   The higher the concentration of antibodies in the blood, to a particular food type, the higher the intolerance level.  


How is an IgG Food Sensitivity Test performed?

An IgG Food Sensitivity Test can detect intolerances to different food types through a simple blood test.  Food components are placed into individual test tubes in order to test for antibodies to the foods and additives. A small amount of your blood sample is then added to each test tube.


If food sensitivity exists, antibodies will develop and bind with the food or additive components. Sensitive measuring instruments measure the level of bound antibodies which allows for the identification and level of intolerance.  The higher the concentration of antibodies in the blood, to a particular food type, the higher the intolerance level.


The test results feature a 5-point sliding scale from "no intolerance" to "severe intolerance".  The level of intolerance determines the length of time the food needs to be eliminated from the diet.  After this time of elimination the food can then be reintroduced into the diet.
