Eczema can be treated very effectively with Natural Medicine.

Eczema is an allergic inflammation of the skin that produces dry, red, inflamed skin lesions, itching, blistering, weeping, scaling, flaking, thickening, crusting, colour changes, and often bleeding.

Eczema can be caused by

  • Dysbiosis
  • Exposure to environmental allergens or toxic compounds
  • Food allergies
  • Food sensitivities
  • Hypochlorhydria (low levels of stomach acid)
  • Lack of sleep
  • Leaky gut syndrome
  • Liver toxicity
  • Low Vitamin D
  • Nutritional deficiencies, especially essential fatty acids
  • Skin contact allergens
  • Stress

Common food allergens

Alcohol, artificial flavourings, colourings, benzoates and preservatives, aubergines, beef, birch pollen and ragweed, cane sugar,  chocolate, citrus fruits, dairy products, dried fruits, eggs, fish and shellfish, gluten containing foods, monosodium glutamate (MSG), oranges, peanuts, peanut butter, peppers, pork, preservatives, salicylate rich foods, seafood, soy foods, strawberries, tartrazine and aspirin containing foods, tomatoes, wheat and yeast.

Common contact allergens

Aeroallergens (such as polishes), conditioners, cosmetics, deodorants, detergents, dust mites, elastoplasts and lanolin derivatives, fragrances, hair dyes, house dust, insecticides, latex, medicated creams and ointments, metals or metal alloys such as gold, silver and nickel found in jewellery or zippers, moulds, nasal sprays, perfumes, plastic or dyestuffs from steering wheels,  plants such as poison ivy, rubber, shampoos, soaps, synthetic resins, toothpastes.

Cold or hot weather, a dry atmosphere, stress, infections such as colds and lowered immunity can exacerbate eczema.  Interestingly, playing video games and mobile phone use has been shown to increase allergic responses in some people with eczema.

To effectively treat Eczema the triggers must be identified.  These can vary depending on the individual.  Therefore the use of Functional Medicine combined with Nutrition and Herbal Medicine give the best outcome and long term successful management of Eczema.
